PayPal wants me to open a new bank account for some silly bullshit. After numerous phone calls, I’m about to cave. Big companies suck and what sucks even worse is being on the bottom. Note to self: GET RICH QUICK!
I can believe this happened to you although these places that we use are great for quickly expediting money matters they are some s**t when it comes to real time life issues. I send my sympathy to you on your Dad's passing you only get one and you are the best of him and your Mom's so back to the subject I do know a couple of people that I have managed to encounter on the blogs that send out messages about current bugs and other unmentionable happenings with them and will pass this on to them because it's relevant~ So take care and keep blogging Doctor!
#SXSWi already at work. (I met you via a tweet from @StaceyMonk on your way to Austin). Love the video post; sorry about *having* to post one on that topic. I would not only suggest you persist (not just to solve this immediate issue you're having) but that you take it up a notch. Talk with a “higher” human. (Man, I hate having to say that.)
And in that talk, elevate the issue to a *cause* — it's a cause (not just your issue, but a whole flawed Paypal business process), a PayPal customer experience excellence opportunity! Be patient as eradicating an entire cause — particularly with this immediate PayPal bureaucracy — will take time.
So… in the meantime, to keep doing business, yeah, I'd open up another account too. But I would not drop the cause. Peace. Oh…and… enjoy #SXSW & behave
Had the same problem with pay pal a few months ago. I had a joint account with my son. it went into a negative balance. after about two weeks of toil and troubles i was able to clear the negative balanced, close that account and start a new one.
Back in July, Paypal froze my account saying it violated their AUP. So, I replied citing all of these other websites that used Paypal in the EXACT same way I did. They said “no, you can't do that”. So I call their customer service, the people on the phone are like “yeah, there's nothing wrong with using Paypal for that. But sorry, we can't help you. You'll need to contact our AUP department”. So I do, and get the same run around again. I call them back, got a different person that ALSO agreed I was doing nothing wrong. But again, they couldn't help me.
I finally gave in and removed Paypal from my website.
Paypal is a scam and a joke, in my opinion and my experience with them.
I remember a while ago, well, it would be five years ago now that I got married and it was SO much hassle to change my name on my existing account that I just closed it and opened a new one with the joint bank account that hubbie and I now had. It was totally ridiculous. I haven't had any problems with them since though.
the thing I'm getting pissed off about with paypal is this: I just recently started selling on ebay again. You know Ebay charges you fees when you sell an item. Then they take a cut after it sells. Then I get paid through paypal. Now new to me; I see paypal takes fees from what I get too.
Um, excuse me, but last time I checked Ebay owns paypal… so where the &$%# do they get off charging me fees twice?
I had a similar experience, they tried to screw me. A year goes by and i get an email saying the hold on my account has been lifted, so immediately i went in and withdrew the cash before they changed their minds.
Heck yes man. I had an issue where I sold an item on ebay. Turns out the buyer was using a stolen account, needless to say I transfered the money to my real bank account because I needed it ($1200 or so). A few days later they put my paypal account into the negatives and start calling me telling me I need to deposit the money back because the buyer was using a stolen account. I told them no, and then they said well we will have to take it to collections then.
Seriously? I followed every guideline on their sellers protection policy and yet they still want to screw me like that?
Man.. That sucks.
I'm at the point of just saying whatever and open up a new account.
there must be a way to solve this issue. there's always a way.

Call a lawyer. This is small claims court stuff. It shouldn't cost you that much.
